Hi, I guess you can call me pasta. This blog title isn’t really great for a pseudonym, perhaps I may think of something better. For now, pasta will do I guess. As people seem uncertain about it, I will mention that I am female in real life.
I’ve been watching anime since 2005, becoming interested in it both because of the enthusiasm of my friends, and also because I was studying Japanese and wanted to get to know a bit more of the language. From my studies I’ve got intermediate Japanese skills; I understand the basics of sentence structure and grammar, and I can follow the gist of most conversations and express myself in simple sentences. My kanji skills are still pretty deplorable though (my university’s Japanese department definitely did not have a very rigorous course of study, and while it wasn’t my major, I still would have loved to have learnt more while there).
When it comes to watching anime, and fiction in general, I have two main interests. Firstly, I love to learn. A show or film which gives me either insight into a new area, or further information about one of my passions (aside from anime, some of my key interests are sewing, history, food, and literature) is often welcomed. I think that there’s so many amazing things out there in the world and I love to be informed about them. Secondly, I wish to view things which are generally upbeat. I also find that the real world can be filled with many things which are sad, bad, or difficult to understand, and so I look to anime as an escape. This means I tend to like shows which are overall humorous and/or positive, and not find myself attracted to shows which are very dark, serious, or violent, although there are exceptions to every rule.
I’m a Christian, and as faith is such an important part of my life, it influences my writing. This is not a blog about Christianity, but my beliefs and values will certainly be reflected in my posts. This verse I think helps to explain some of my viewing philosophy

I think that there can be excellent and lovely things shown in anime, both the stories and truths about the world around us, and I hope to be able to share some of them with others!
The genres which I am mainly interested in are action/adventure, comedy, fantasy, and slice of life, so it’s likely a lot of the anime I focus on will be from these genres. For a more detailed list of what I’ve seen you can have a look at my Anime Planet.
About this Blog
The name of my blog comes from the anime Servant x Service, where one of the characters mentions eating plain pasta and plain rice so she can afford more books. This resonates with me and my love of reading, plus I think that pasta and rice are delicious!
The image in my header is from Pixabay, and I know that their images don’t need attribution but I think that the contributors do such a great job that they deserve a mention. If you ever need pictures free for personal and commercial use, definitely have a look. The terrible looking rice bowl icon is pixel art by me.
